[Public Arts Advisory Board on March 20, 2025.]

I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND START. I'M CALLING THE PUBLIC ARTS BOARD MEETING TO ORDER AT 604.
PLEASE TAKE THE ROLL. CASSIE HERE. STEVE. PRESENT. GLORIA. HERE. MINAJ. PRESENT. WE HAVE A QUORUM. WE DO HAVE CHANTELLE. OFFSHORE AND ESTHER OUT THIS EVENING.
THERE'S NO ONE HERE TO ADDRESS THE BOARD, SO WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR DISCUSSION ITEMS. FIRST.
DISCUSSION ITEM. WALKING TRAILS, PHASE TWO. YOSHI. RIGHT. UPDATE. SO AFTER. IS THIS ON? CAN YOU ALL HEAR ME? OKAY. AFTER LAST WEEK OR LAST MONTH'S MEETING, WE HAD TALKED ABOUT THE DAMAGE THAT THE SACRED FIRE SCULPTURE HAD WITH THE CALIFORNIA FIRES, AND I REACHED OUT TO YOSHI AND ASKED HIM OR TOLD HIM THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE SCULPTURE REPAIRED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
TRY TO RESTORE IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL. AND HE DID REPLY. HE WILL REPAIR THE SCULPTURE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THE ONLY THING NOTICEABLE WILL BE THE FACT THAT THE STONE WILL BE A DARKER HUE WHERE IT WAS BURNED. AND THEN WE HAD SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHIP, THE CHIPPING ON IT, AND IF IT WOULD BE WATERPROOF OR NOT. AND AGAIN, HE SAYS HE'LL BE ABLE TO REPAIR THAT AND THE SCULPTURE WILL BE WATERPROOF. I USE A PRODUCT CALLED MIRACLE COVER, WHICH IS A RUBBER SILICONE SEALANT. SO THAT'S THAT'S THE UPDATE WITH THAT. QUESTIONS. IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO PAY MORE THAN 60,000, AND BUYING SOMETHING IS NOT AS DURABLE AS WE THOUGHT, RIGHT? A REPAIRING OF AN WHATEVER IT IS, RIGHT? HE REPAIRED IT WILL MOISTURE. IT WILL HAVE A LOT OF ISSUES BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO BE AN OUTDOOR. SO WE SHOULD SAY THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO GET THE ORIGINAL ONE. AND THEN REPAIRING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE. BASICALLY I, I THINK HE'S HE'S NOT SAYING HE'S SAYING HE'S HE USES THAT PRODUCT IN ALL THE ON ALL HIS SCULPTURES. IF YOU ARE BUYING SOMETHING, YOU SHOULD NOT BE OPEN BOX BASICALLY. SO NOW CLOSED BOX. IT'S NOT A ANYMORE LIKE CLOSED BOX. IT HAS BECOME AN OPEN BOX. RIGHT. SOMETHING IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS ORIGINAL. AND WE ARE PAYING THE SAME AMOUNT. SO WHATEVER HAPPENED, HE SHOULD CLAIM INSURANCE, RIGHT? IF HE HAS A STUDIO, HE SHOULD CLAIM INSURANCE AND DO A NEW ONE FOR US. OKAY, THAT'S MY OBSERVATION. I GUESS I'M CURIOUS. YEAH, I GUESS I'M CURIOUS ABOUT THE VIABILITY OF ACTUALLY REDOING THE BASE VERSUS REPAIRING IT. I MEAN, IT IS INSURED, CORRECT? YEAH. SO I'M JUST CURIOUS AS TO AS TO WHAT I MEAN. OBVIOUSLY IT WOULD BE A DELAY, BUT WOULD IT NOT BE MORE DESIRABLE TO HAVE THE BASE REDONE AS OPPOSED TO JUST REPAIRED? I DON'T KNOW HOW A THE COUNCIL OR B THE CITIZENS WOULD REACT TO AN IMPERFECT PIECE, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? SO THAT WOULD JUST BE MY ONLY QUESTION. WHEN WE MET LAST MONTH, ONE OF THE COMMENTS I MADE WAS, COULD YOU REACH OUT TO SOMEONE ON THE COUNCIL AND JUST KIND OF GET A FEEL FOR WHAT THEY THINK? BEFORE WE GO FORWARD? BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND BOTH VIEWPOINTS, YOU KNOW. YOU KNOW, WE PAID FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS GOING TO BE WONDERFUL AND BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT MARS OR ANYTHING. ANY DAMAGE. AND HE'S GOING TO GOING TO TRY TO FIX IT AND I THAT'S FINE. BUT I'M AGAIN, IT'S LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, BEFORE WE GO THAT FAR, I KIND OF I DO KIND OF THINK WE NEED TO GET A FEEL FROM SOMEBODY ON THE COUNCIL, MAYBE NOT SO MUCH THE MAYOR OR MAYBE THE MAYOR AND SAY, LOOK, THIS IS WHERE WE'RE AT. AND, YOU KNOW, BEFORE HE GOES TO THE TROUBLE OF REPAIRING IT. BECAUSE LET'S SAY REPAIRS IT AND IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE. AND THEN HE'S DONE
[00:05:04]
ALL THAT WORK FOR NOT. OKAY. SO WHAT I CAN DO BECAUSE AGAIN, HE'S SAYING THAT THE ONLY THING NOTICEABLE WOULD BE THE FACT THAT THE STONE WILL HAVE A DARKER HUE WHERE IT WAS BURNED.IT'S NOT NOTICEABLE, RIGHT? WE ARE ANSWERABLE. WE ARE COLLECTING MONEY BY DOING ALL THIS STUFF IN SCHOOL. PEOPLE ARE PUTTING A LOT OF HARD WORK. VENDORS ARE COMING, RIGHT? SO IT'S OUR HARD EARNED MONEY. OKAY. IF YOU ARE, IF YOU HAVE AGREED FOR SOMETHING GREAT, WE SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTING SOMETHING GOOD. OKAY. SO. AND ALSO, ALL THE THINGS I THINK WHATEVER DAMAGE. RIGHT. HE SHOULD GET COVERED DAMAGE OF THE STUDIO FROM THE FIRE INCIDENCE OR WHATEVER IT IS. SO IT IS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, RIGHT? IF HE IS DOING A BUSINESS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROPERLY INSURED, IF IT IS NOT INSURED, IF IN LOSS, IF HE SAYS THAT NO, I NEED A THING, $2000 OR $3000, PROBABLY WE WILL CONSIDER IT PAYING FOR THE ORIGINAL ONE. SO WHAT IS THE COST OF THAT ONE? TRY TO FIND OUT WHATEVER GOT DAMAGED. WHAT IS THE COST OF THAT? REDOING IT.
IF HE SAYS OKAY, IT WILL TAKE 3000 OR 4000. WE HAVE MONEY. PROBABLY RECONSIDER PAYING HIM SOME EXTRA, BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO GET AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL, JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL. SO WHAT I CAN DO IS I CAN REACH BACK OUT TO HIM AND ASK HIM ALL THESE QUESTIONS. ASK HIM WHAT WOULD BE THE COST TO REDO IT? WHAT WOULD BE THE TIMELINE TO REDO IT? GLORIA, I WILL REACH OUT TO COUNCIL AND KIND OF GET THEIR FEELINGS ABOUT IT. I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW IF. YOSHI. I GUESS HIS FEELINGS BASED ON. WOULD HE BE? I MEAN, WOULD HE BE INSULTED, PERHAPS THAT WE'RE SAYING THIS WILDFIRE AND YOUR WHOLE LIVELIHOOD BEING AFFECTED IS IRRELEVANT TO US, AND WE DON'T CARE TO HAVE THIS PIECE THAT'S NO LONGER PERFECT. I MEAN, I JUST I DON'T WANT IT TO BE OFFENSIVE TOWARDS HIM EITHER. BUT I ALSO UNDERSTAND THE, YOU KNOW, THE NATURE OF IT. IT IS INSURED. AND WHAT WOULD THAT LOOK LIKE TO REDO THE BASE. AND SO I JUST, I THINK MAYBE KIND OF JUST TAKING THAT INTO CONSIDERATION TO WHAT ARE HIS THOUGHTS ON REDOING THE BASE.
WOULD HE FEEL LIKE THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME HAVE THE TIME TO DO THAT, YOU KNOW, AND US BE WILLING TO HAVE THAT DELAY TO GET IT RIGHT? OR WOULD HE FEEL LIKE WE'RE NOT APPRECIATIVE OF THE FACT THAT HE'S BEEN THROUGH ALL OF THIS, TOO? YEAH, IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE'S HE'S DEFINITELY VERY PROUD OF IT. WHAT HE WROTE TO CAROL, YOU KNOW, HE'S REALLY HE WAS THINKING LIKE THIS WAS PART OF THE HISTORY OF THE PIECE. SO I THINK. IT'S. WELL, IF HE, HE, HE'S SAYING THE, THE FACT THAT IT WAS IN, IN, IN THE FIRE AS PART OF THE HISTORY OF THE PIECE, IS THAT WHAT HE'S SAYING? YEAH. WELL, I, I IF I WERE THE ARTIST AND I HAD THIS ON DISPLAY FOR THE PUBLIC TO SEE, AND THE PUBLIC'S NOT GOING TO KNOW THE STORY. THEY'RE GOING TO SAY, OH, LOOK AT THIS. OH, GOSH. IT JUST KIND OF LOOKS LIKE IT'S BEEN REPAIRED OR SOMETHING. I THINK AT SOME POINT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT INCLUDING THAT PART OF THE STORY. YEAH, WE WOULD HAVE TO.
BUT I THINK THAT TAKES AWAY FROM FROM THE PIECE THAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SOMETHING THAT COMMEMORATES THE CHOCTAW THAT WERE HERE. WHEN YOU PUT IN THIS OTHER LITTLE STORY ABOUT THE BIG FIRES IN LOS ANGELES, YOU KNOW, TEN YEARS FROM NOW, FIVE YEARS FROM NOW, WHO CARES ABOUT THE BIG FIRES IN LOS ANGELES? SO I, I, I GUESS I'M, I MY MYSELF, YOU KNOW. MYSELF I IT SHOULD BE A BEAUTIFUL PIECE. THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY MARKS ON IT. THE FACT THAT HE CAN REPAIR IT AND HE IT'S THAT LITTLE SECTION GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT SHADE OF, OF STONE, OR THE WHOLE BOTTOM IS GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT SHADE. I DON'T KNOW WHEN HE SAYS IT'S GOING TO JUST THE AREA THAT'S REPAIRED. YES. SO, SO THEN THAT AREA THAT'S REPAIRED IS GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT SHADE THAN THE REST OF THEM. AND THIS IS JUST THE BASE OR IS IT THE NEXT PIECE ABOUT THE BASE? JUST THE BASE. I THINK IT WAS JUST THE BASE. OKAY. OKAY. ACTUALLY HAD IT BEEN INDOOR PROBABLY OKAY. BUT OUTDOOR IT IS GOING TO BE LIKE IT IS GOING TO AFFECT THE LIFE OF THAT, WHATEVER IT IS. OKAY.
[00:10:05]
SO. IF IT IF IT DAMAGED, IF IT IS NOT GOOD LOOKING, IT SHOULD SAY YOU SHOULD SAY DIPLOMATICALLY, WE APPRECIATE AND WE ARE VERY SORRY ABOUT WHATEVER HAPPENED TO YOU. BUT I THINK THAT THE BOARD IS ANSWERABLE TO THE PUBLIC HERE. AND WE HAVE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO WE WOULD LIKE TO REDO IT AND TRY TO COVER IT USING OUR INSURANCE, LIKE YOU CAN REALLY SUGGEST. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THEY. RIGHT IDEA OR NOT, BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT AS WE HAVE ORDERED IT. OKAY. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. ANY MORE QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON TO DISCUSSION. ITEM NUMBER TWO, WALKING TRAILS. PHASE THREE FROM SUNNY BEHAN. SO THERE'S NOT REALLY MUCH OF AN UPDATE. SUNNY'S BEEN IN SOUTH AFRICA AND HE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET HIS CONTRACT NOTARIZED BY THE SOUTH AFRICAN NOTARY. SO WE GOT THAT BACK THIS WEEK AND SENT IT TO CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE. AND THEY'VE ACCEPTED IT. SO WE ARE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT STEP AND THE NEXT STEP. WE'RE GETTING HIM HIS FIRST MILESTONE PAYMENT. SO THAT IS THAT. AGAIN, MOVING ON TO DISCUSSION ITEMS. ITEM NUMBER THREE WALKING TRAILS. PHASE THREE WITH SETH VANDERPOOL. SO SAME UPDATE HERE. HIS CONTRACT HAS BEEN SIGNED, ACCEPTED BY THE CITY. AND WE'VE ISSUED HIM HIS FIRST MILESTONE PAYMENT. SO HE SHOULD BE STARTING SOON. ALL RIGHT. VERY GOOD. WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR BUSINESS ITEMS. AND WE HAVE OUR FIRST AND ONLY BUSINESS ITEM. CONSIDER AND ACT UPON THE PUBLIC ARTS ADVISORY BOARD. MINUTES FROM 220 2025. I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO CONSIDER AND ACT UPON THE PUBLIC ARTS PUBLIC ARTS ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES FROM TWO 2025. I SECOND THAT. OKAY. THIS IS THE SECOND. YES. ANY SECOND. YOU SECOND. I SECOND IT. OKAY. I SEE ON YOUR SCREEN WHERE IT SAYS INTER MEETING. NOW GO AHEAD AND CLOSE THE PUBLIC. OKAY. SECOND IT. OKAY. I THINK WE'RE HAVING DIFFICULTIES WITH THE VOTING AND VOTE. MINAJ WE'RE GOING TO DO A HAND VOTE. AND THEN JUST DO A HAND VOTE. THERE YOU GO. OKAY. ALL RIGHT. AND THE VOTE PASSES TO SKIP ALL THE WAY TO ADJOURNMENT. AND I. OH THERE WE GO. OH, DID IT POP? I WOULD ASK FOR A MOTION TO ADJOURN.MAKE A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE PUBLIC ARTS BOARD MEETING OF MARCH THE 20TH. I'LL SECOND THAT. AND WE ARE
